Hand Carved Stool from the Nupe Tribe of Nigeria.
Traditionally presented to brides by their grooms, Nupe stools come in varying forms and are all carved from single blocks of dense African hard wood, share a carved top surface and can be decorated with intricate patterns and colours.
The Nupe are an ethnic group native to the middle belt of Nigeria. Living along the banks of the Niger river, the Nupe are now Muslims but the indigenous religion is still practiced by some and traditional rituals performed.
