Natural Malawi Table
Making and weaving a Malawi Table is a long labour intensive process which takes months of planning.
The Tiliaceae shrub is used as jute for the weaving of the tables. The shrub grows in the summer months and the long roots are harvested, coiled and dried.
In the winter months there is no material available to weave these tables, therefore weaving is limited to about 8 months of the year.
These tables are extremely hard wearing and strong. The natural table can get damp– but drying quickly is essential, as it is an organic product and must not stay damp for long periods, as mould can settle.
